Real Bargain
They work great and last forever. The best reel under $35 you can find (excluding other Shimano models under $35, which just get better and better for every additional dollar you spend).Smooth (relatively, it only costs $13), flawless performance, tough.I have a lot of these (1000s, 2500s and 4000s) that are over 15 years old, and were subject to very heavy saltwater use, and they still work fine.I have caught literally hundreds of Mangrove snapper, Snook to 25 lbs, Tarpon to 30 lbs on this model, and they always come through.For kids or beginners, you cannot find a better starting reel.I use them as "assembly line" rods on an intercoastal dock I fish on. I put 6 or 8 of them in rod holders, baited with live shrimp, and wait for the action. (I'd say the average reel I own has spent over 100 hours in a rod holder, getting hit constantly by stingrays, snappers, snook and other game fish, and tackle busting Sail... Top to learn more
Surprisingly Good!
For $13, I didn't expect to get much usage from this reel (the 1000 model). I bought it basically as a backup reel, but I decided to try it out after I bought it. I put it on my Ultra-Light rod, and only loaded it with 4 pound line. I used appropriately sized bait/lures, and I didn't miss a beat bringing in the Bluegills. Especially for a beginner, or as a backup, there's no down-side to this reel. Of course, the line retrieve isn't as smooth on this (I don't believe it even has any ball bearings), but then again, it's only $13. I liked the 1000 model so much, I bought the 2000 model also, as a backup to my rod/reel combo that I use 6 pound line on. Sure enough, the first time I used it, I reeled in a fighting 2 pound bass on it, and it worked great. I've used both the 1000 and 2000 models I own probably 3 times each, so they're not exactly getting a workout, but I can say that, using appropriately sized bait for the smaller fish, this reel should do the job just fine. oddly it's one of the best reels I own.
I've had one of these reels for about 15 years. Now it hasn't been used constantly the whole time. Well I own several more reels now and the ix has given me the least amount of trouble. I'm comparing this with $90 reels. It castes and retrieves pretty well. The one big plus about this reel is that is has never broken. This is a good cheap reel that holds up to lots of use. Sedona
I fish both fresh and salt. Years ago I learned that no brand compares to the drag system and reliability of Shimano spinning reels in the harsh saltwater environment. I am slowly replacing all of my freshwater and the Sedona offers a great balance of features and quality of the money.

Shimano Sedona, perfect
I already owned some other Shimano reels, all spinning... I was debating the Sedona and the Sahara. I went with the slightly less expensive Sedona after reading other reviews. This reel is a big step up from the cheaper Sienna. It has more features and is very smooth compared to the Sienna or many other reels. It doesn't have a dozen BB's but you don't need very many for a smaller spinning reel. Unless the reel is heavy and your going to be fishing for 30 lb+ you won't need more than 6 or so ball bearings for the reel to feel silky smooth.Shimano makes a very high quality product which the company can be very proud of. The Sedona I bought is a ultra-light 500 series; it is perfect for many of the pond fish in GA. If I could do it over, I would have got this reel in a 1000 or 2000 size and bought the Sienna in a 500 size. I use the smaller ultra-light as a travel/backpacking rig.

Awesome reel with plenty bang for the buck
Bought this reel for Walleye fishing in Northern Minnesota. Glad I purchased it in a larger diameter spool.(8lb diameter fireline, 30lb test). Extremely smooth reel, no wobble, very easy and fast drag tuning. I love the sidestab style casting face which allows for fast, easy casting. Also a great feature is the automatic reposition of the casting trigger so your not messing around w/your rig and leader. Top to learn more

Excellent reel!
After dealing with a few crappy(not crappie) reels, this is a welcome surprise. Have not had any issues with it at all, and it is really smooth. Casts far, reels in good. Really like the quickfire cast and the drag adjust lever in the back for quick adjustment while reeling in. Top to learn more

Best Reel I've ever used. Long casts and smooth action
OCT 2011 - OPENING DAY for 2011/2012 trout season at Pyramid Lake Nevada: Hundreds of fisherman hit the lake for the opening day, many fish were caught from boats, few fish from shore, but 'this guy' rocked it!I went out with an 8'6" medium Okuma Celio, outfitted with a Shimano Sahara 2500 FD reel. The combination was powerful. Guys on either side of me each caught zero to one fish all day. I caught over fifteen! Lucky? I don't think so. The difference was the spinning rod & reel. Here's what I noticed:1) Casting - I was flipping the same weight lures, and sending them at least 50% further than the other guys I was fishing with. The advantage for me was getting my lures into the deep water of the lake. The other guys were all coming up several yards short of the drop off where the big fish lurk this early in the season. When my lure would move from the deep water to the upper ledge, I constantly had big followers chasing my lure in.2) Touch... Top to learn more

Santa arrived on time

Propulsion Line Management System The most obvious component of the Propulsion Line Management System is the new Propulsion spool lip design. Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations it has been determined that this new spool lip design provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design while preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming. It also allows the line to flow off of the spool in smaller loops during the cast which means less slap on the stripper guide. This means longer casts with less friction.
The Propulsion spool also utilizes a long stroke design to further enhance the casting distance. Furthermore, there is less bouncing of the line on the spool lip like on a standard spinning spool. Because of the unique shape of the Propulsion spool, the line flows consistently off of the spool. So, with a standard spool, friction alternates from heavy to light as the line slaps the spool lip. This causes backlash and inconsistent line speeds. The Propulsion spool lip provides consistently light friction to overcome these situations.
S-Concept S-Concept represents Shimano's initial philosophy on which many of our spinning reel have been designed. The three basic ideas that are inherent in the S-Concept are Smooth, Silent and Strong.

Dyna-Balance This feature eliminates wobble during the retrieve by counter balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. By using computer balancing, an approach similar to car tire balancing, we are able to redistribute the rotor weight to create smooth rotation and eliminate vibrations caused by the reel.

Great fishing reel, and you can't beat the price
After my old reel broke from one day of chum and coho salmon fishing, I bought the Sienna 4000FD. It works great. Handles the bigger fish no problem (I have only used it for salmon fishing). This is a bargin for a very nice reel
This seems to be a very nice reel. I have only used it two times since I bought it, so I can not comment on its durability. The reel has performed flawlessly so far. I filled it with a 10 lb test high quality braided "super" line. I recommend this line because it works so well on spinning gear. This type line doesn't have much problem with line twist, and has no "memory" problems. It's monofiliment equivilent size is about 2 lb test. Sometimes I tie on a 3 ft., 6 lb flourocarbon leader for very clear water. With this line I can cast light lures with no problems. The drag on the reel is very smooth, and it is very smooth to crank too. Overall, this Sienna 2500 appears to be a real bargin at this price. Top to learn more

Sienna 1000 size
These are good reels for the money. They are smoother than they have a right to be at this price. Mostly they have some niceties missing that you'll get by spending 20 bucks more. By niceties I mean this reel has a hard plastic handle knob rather than rubber, a sticker on the spool indicating line capacities rather than being painted on and a cheaper paint job. The only thing I noticed different about mine and a more expensive Sonora while fishing was the slippery hard plastic handle knob. Also the drags are not particularly strong, but they are fairly smooth letting line out. In my experience, this is a good choice in reels unless you want to spend considerably more. Top to learn more

i have this reel with my st.croix and its insanely light. i thought that there wouldnt be that big of a difference but its night and day with this reel and my past reels. some people dont like the handle grip but i think its pretty comfy. u feel every nibble with a light rod/reel combo i definatly recommend this reel. not to mention its a sexy unit. 3000 ci4 Stradic Vs. D HA & TSH
Yes, pricey, but very very light verse Excelers. Obviously, there is no comparison if you consider weight.I Paired each reel (HA, TSH against ci4) with GL3, fishing all day with no fatigue ever with Shimano and I feel the oneness I love with my lure more with this new ci4. I actually for the money would recommend the HA over the ci4, but for the weight and this area of total connect and final finish. (For double the price, no surprise here). NOTE: In case you are wondering why writing 3000 under 2500 review, they are same exact reel, just different spool size.Personally, while some critics rate low on the position- I choose "Like" button for the hard to reach anti-reverse switch, since I never use that ever and hate if accident switched on!Only negative: I wish was slightly faster, after fishing with TSH, but no other complaints. If you want speed, for the money the Daiwa's Exceler TSH is hard to beat especially covering a lot water very quickly... Top to learn more
