Comprehensive Overview of What You Need to Know
This video is very thorough in what you need to know in order to snorkel or scuba dive. It mainly focuses on scuba diving and covers everything from how to select the right equipment to what you need to know in order to use the equipment properly. It covers every essential point to pass the scuba diving certification test, including the necessary environmental observations and how to trim the gear. The only thing that is not covered is the dive tables, because this varies most in the kinds of certification tests that are given and need to be specific to those tests. The video is a densely packed information presentation of 45 minutes with lots of video images and underwater scenes. The narration and images makes the experience of watching the video very pleasant. Even though it is a fun video to watch, it is very densely packed with all the information that you need. Because it is densely packed, a person who is studying for scuba certification can benefit from viewing this...

Mesmerizing
I was mesmerized as I watched this DVD! The underwater scenes are so beautiful and tranquil and the narrator's voice was calm, easy to listen to and understand as the various elements invovled in scuba diving were described. I fell in love with scuba diving and our underwater world! I am left feeling relaxed, comfortable and inspired to try this sport.

SEA HUNT IN A STRAIGHT JACKET
If he were alive today, Lloyd Bridges would just die. As it is, in that great water world in the sky, he's probably reverse-inducted his air supply, causing his regulator to reverberate and self-destruct, or whatever it is regulators do when they implode in dismay. Humberto Fontova has created a first book that is a paen to Louisiana and its Gulf fisheries. In doing so, he has spear-gunned every sacred sea cow the Sea Hunt crowd--and the wine-tasting, escargot-slurping,environmentally-connected Sierra Clubbers--have ever embraced in the pursuit of politically correct, fish-hugging, non-consumptive usage of the Gulf of Mexico, and her abundant piscatorial plenty. Thumbing his nose at all in a juicy redneck/sea-scum dialect, Fontova writes the following: "...In the Fund for Animal's annual 'Body Count,' which scores states in its 'Cavalcade of Cruelty' by the number of animals 'murdered' by hunters as reported by fish and game agencies, Louisiana was: NUMBER ONE! the...

The Helldiver's Rodeo
Attention "non-divers"!! You too have to read this book. Humberto Fontova takes the reader into a world most people have never experienced. You experience thrills, fear, anxiety, ecstacy, humor, nostalgia, and large doses of political incorrectness. Sounds strange, but this book does not fit into an Amazon category. This guy can flat out write. Caution to environmentalists in California.... this book might change your preconceived notions about the environmental effects of offshore oil platforms. Fish love them......

Interesting read, ignore Ted Nugent's jacket review
The Helldivers' Rodeo is an insider's view of the captivating world of deepsea spearfishing. The action takes place in the Gulf of Mexico, miles from shore, near the massive oil and gas platforms, manmade structures that draw big fish at such numbers as to shame nature's reefs. The story is presented in the first person when the author recounts his own hunts of large cobia, massive grouper and man-sized amberjacks. The author weaves into third person when relaying significant events second hand, such as untimely diving deaths (including divers tangled and dragged deep by freshly speared fish), encounters of schools of jewfish (grouper weighing up to 700 lbs) and lunatics spearing 15 feet sharks (which can and have turned on their hunters). These stories are interspersed with the author's personal stories, ranging from his boyhood in revolutionary Cuba (where his dad was arrested bye Che's milicianos) to his tales of aging in decadent Louisiana. The book is not award-winning...

Absolutely Essential Reading for Divers
This book should be required reading for an Advanced Diver rating or above (probably even open water, but might add too much stress to beginers). It is absolutely fantastic and definitly could save your life or the life of someone you love. Please don't kill yourself with mistakes that others have already made. Learn from the mistakes of others and avoid them. That is what this book is all about. This book has several stories of dive mistakes and what lessons can be learned from each case. If you are a diver I would consider this book to be #1 on your must read list. Get it, read it, live it, and dive happy!

Product Description

One diver, after a seemingly brief period below the surface, discovers that his gas supply has run perilously low. Another, paralyzed, bobs helplessly on the surface, and when a poorly trained divemaster attempts rescue, things go from bad to worse. Two other divers, fascinated by the bountiful undersea life of the Caribbean, fail to notice that a powerful current is sweeping them rapidly away from their unattended boat.

These are just a few of the true stories you’ll find in Diver Down, most of them involving diver error and resulting in serious injury or death. Each of these tales is accompanied by an in-depth analysis of what went wrong and how you can recognize, avoid, and respond to similar underwater calamities. This unique survival guide explores the gamut of diving situations, including cave and wreck diving, deep-water dives, river and drift diving, decompression sickness, and much more. It shows you how to prevent tragic mishaps through:

  • Inspection and maintenance of primary and secondary diving gear
  • Learning and following established safety protocols
  • Confirming the training and credentials of diving professionals
  • Practicing emergency responses under real-world conditions

So important for a diver to know these things
I have a subscription to Scuba Diver magazine because it has a section called "Lessons for Life" that gives you the story of a diver who died or came close. This book includes those stories and so many more. It is so important to know the many ways that one can get into trouble and I rarely read one of these without learning something that changes the way I dive or care for my equipment. The one objection I have to certification and specialty classes is that they don't include these factual accounts of diver deaths and near misses. It is as if they don't want to scare us when in fact I find that each and every one has something to say as to how I should apporach the sport. I personally have made changes in behavior soley based upon the lessons taught by these stories and consider this book a must read for anyone diving today.

Great analysis of what can go wrong and why
One might consider this book by Michel Ange, who is Technical Editor of Scuba Diving Magazine, a downer as someone dies in almost every chapter. That's because Ange presents a series of case studies of diving gone wrong. Each chapter tackles a specific issue and tells the story on how something went wrong during a scuba dive, often with deadly consequences. The stories are real, though names and places have been changed so as to preserve the privacy of those involved. While Ange's book presents some harrowing evidence that our sport can be dangerous and deadly, we must consider that this applies to almost any sport, and even to life in general. More accidents happen in bathrooms than anywhere else, and no one would consider them especially dangerous or deadly places. The value in Diver Down is that it describes what CAN go wrong if rules are not observed and common sense does not prevail. That is the gist and primary value of this book, to point out what can go wrong if we...

Scuba Diving Training

I truly would not recommend other people to train you to Learn to Dive in Cairns but if you choose to look somewhere else please be very careful when choosing a dive operator in Cairns as some dive schools make use of fixed platforms at sea which... I actually originally checked out diving with a business called Down Under Dive but these guys looked rather high priced and I have read many a good thing about their dive training. This was pretty good as you will get to dive a variety of reefs and also have a truly unique diving experience. I did it with Deep Sea Divers Den on a six day liveaboard scuba dive training course which was certainly excellent. That’s the place I did my PADI Open water scuba dive course.

As part of her preparation for her character, Sonal has just completed her swimming training and is all set to take on scuba diving as well. The training is an essential part of her character model and she is putting her best foot forward to make it work.
